Information disorder in Nepali media is not a new phenomenon. However, the intensification of fake and manipulated news in the later period has raised national security concerns and affected geopolitical relations. While social networking sites and mushrooming online news portals are often regarded as the prime sources of misinformation, disinformation and fabricated news, the mainstream media are also not aloof from such endeavours. Fabricated and inaccurate media content is increasingly responsible for misleading public opinion on issues of national importance. This report attempts to analyze the prevalence of information disorder in the Nepali media landscape, particularly regarding news coverage about different geopolitical actors and the tendency to mislead the public to drive opinions towards opposition or in support of different countries.
