Province Politics

Province 2 Chief Minister (CM) Lalbabu Raut won a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on October 6. Out of 104-member in Provincial Assembly, CM Raut received 77 votes whereas 23 were against while four lawmakers remained absent. CM Raut got the support of Janata Samajwadi Party, CPN-Maoist Center, and CPN-Unified Socialist while CPN-UML and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party emerged against him.

On October 8, the cabinet meeting of Province 2 appointed Shailendra Shah as spokesperson of provincial government. Speaker Shah is also Minister of Finance of Province 2. Earlier, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Law was played the role as provincial spokesperson. Moreover, Province 2 government has reshuffled office bearers of various thematic committees. 

Lumbini Chief Minister Kul Prasad KC administration formed a 17-member Jumbo cabinet on October 10. During cabinet expansion, seven new ministers and three state ministers were sworn. About two months after the formation of the government, CM KC has able to full-shape his cabinet.  

About one year after the finalization of the Lumbini capital city in Deukhuri of Dang, Chief Minister Kul Prasad KC inaugurated Chief Minister Office on October 19. Earlier, Chief Minister’s liaison office was working in Deukhuri. 

Lumbini Province has made 62 laws so far. However, out of 50 laws purposed for the amendment, only seven laws have been amended. 

On October 10, Province 1 speaker Pradeep Kumar Bhandari had purposed to start the process of taking a vote of confidence after the Dashain festival. However, as per provision CM Bhim Acharya should have taken a vote of confidence within October 11 but it was postponed as the speaker’s proposal. Meanwhile, CM Acharya has scheduled for taking a vote of confidence on October 22. Moreover, Province 1 CM Acharya has started political appointed as a controversial way while he needs to take a vote of confidence. On October 10 CM Acharya appointed 22 members in different committees and boards. 

The ruling party has decided to change the governments of Province 1, Bagmati, and Karnali. But there is not clear which party will lead where.  

Humanitarian support

The Cabinet of Sudurpaschim Province has decided to provide Nrs 2.5 million to all nine districts and Nrs. 250 million to the Provincial Disaster Management Fund for Flood victims. The heavy rain damaged several properties and human beings.
