According to the data published by the Ministry of Social Development, 41,000 teenage girls got married in Karnali Province in the last three years and out of them, 19 percent also went through pregnancy. However, the remoteness of the villages and lack of awareness has rendered maternity services ineffective, putting the lives of teenage girls in danger. Although child marriage has been abolished in Nepal by law, it is still a common practice in rural areas of Nepal.

The amnesty scheme introduced by the Omani government in October, 2020 allows undocumented migrant workers to return home without the need to face any legal repercussions. According to the Nepal’s ambassador to Oman, the Nepali embassy has been encouraging undocumented Nepali migrants to take advantage of the scheme. The deadline of the scheme was set to expire in December 2020, however it has been extended until June, 30, 2021.
