Safe motherhood: The government has brought new regulation for safe motherhood and reproduction health rights ensuring safe, affordable, quality and easily accessible maternity health services. Maternity and emergency maternity services will be provided 24 hours and without any charges under the new regulation. Every individual is entitled to gain information and seek family planning services.
Increasing number of child marriage: Sarlahi district has recorded 30 instances of child marriage at the outset of lockdown in the year 2020. Sarlahi, Dailekh, and Surkhet are districts most affected by child marriage. A report of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) suggests that 11 out of 152 girls were married off in these districts in the period of lockdown showing the gravity of the situation.
Six people charged of child marriage: Six people are in police custody on the charge of being involved in two separate cases of child marriage in Udayapur. The cases were reported on December 4 and December 15. Both the instances were cases of voluntary child marriage. The investigation is underway.
Migrant workers keen on tourism and agriculture: The latest report by International Organisation of Migration (IOM) on migrant workers suggests that the returnees have shown interest in working in agriculture (36%) and tourism sectors (65.6%). The returnees have also expressed unwillingness to go back to abroad for employment purpose.
Man held for raping daughter: Police have detained a 40-year-old man for raping his 13-year-old daughter on December 17 in Udayapur district. Police are probing the case.
