Nepal’s Covid-19 tally reaches 274,869 as death toll reaches 3012: According to the health ministry, as of March 10, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally stands at 274,869 and the death tally has reached 3012. There are 870 active cases of infection in the country while 270,987 people have made a recovery.

Public health experts have warned against developing a false sense of security that comes from getting a Covid-19 vaccine. They have said that since no vaccine is a hundred percent effective, people should continue to be careful and practice safety measures as getting a jab will not make them immune to the virus. Doctors also say that the effectiveness of the vaccine also depends on factors such as infection status of individual before getting vaccinated and the variant of the virus.

The government of Nepal had initially planned to vaccinate Nepalis above the age of 55 as a part of the second phase of the Covid-19 immunization drive. However, due to the lack of availability of vaccines, the government decided to vaccinate only those above the age of 65. The Health Ministry said that the decision was made because neither did the WHO deliver the doses it had promised, nor could the government procure sufficient amount of doses.
