Geopolitics and Foreign Engagements in Nepal

In recent years China has aggressively increased its engagements in Nepal. Furthermore, China sees communist parties as a leeway to extend its interest in Nepal. Meanwhile, the NepalUS relation experienced a significant turbulence a few months ago during Nepal’s parliamentary ratification of the SPP which Nepal itself applied for. India has its own interests and has directed its engagement to curb growing Chinese presence in Nepal. To deal with this intensified scenario, consolidated diplomatic practice is a prime need.

In this discourse, realizing the need for discussions on an intensified geopolitical environment in Nepal, Nepal’s foreign policy and diplomatic practice along with shifting patterns in Nepal-China relation, Center for Social Inclusion and Federalism (CESIF) is organizing a National Level Stakeholders’ Discussion on Geopolitics and Foreign Engagement in Nepal on September 28, 2022.

This seminar aims to bring key stakeholders together to discuss the prospects and challenges of increasing geopolitical competition of global powers in Nepal. The seminar aims to discuss Nepal’s foreign policy and diplomatic practice to deal with the geopolitical actors in Nepal. This program will also focus on building consensus on the strategies Nepal should adopt to maintain balanced relationships with its bilateral partners.
