Covid-19

According to a data from National Public Health Laboratory, Omicron accounts for 88 % of the total cases in the country. However, the study was conducted in a very small sample size of 32, out of which 28 were proven to be Omicron variant.

The authorities have made vaccination cards mandatory for booster dose. People who have lost their vaccination cards are finding it difficult to get a replacement card, as the vaccination data haven’t been made digital.

The National Public Health Laboratory has only allowed three labs including Sumeru Hospital, Star Hospital Molecular Lab, and Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Hospital for covid testing in Tribhuwan International Airport, which are also only limited to people travelling to UAE.

Security

According to a report by Transparency International, the ranking of Nepal in Corruption Perception Index has remained unchanged. Nepal ranked 117th among 180 countries in 2020.

More than two dozen Bangladeshi youths have been found to be working in different construction sites in Kathmandu. These youths, who entered Nepal by crossing Mechi river were assured to be taken to Europe after working six months in Kathmandu by the traffickers.

Environment

The death of a rhino in a road construction site in Chitwan has created outrage among the public. This issue sheds a deeper light in human-wildlife conflict debate. As the human encroachment in wildlife habitat increases, the instances of human-wildlife conflict also increases causing economic and human losses, as indicated by the havoc created by wild elephants in Kanchanpur.
