Two accused of rape: Police arrested two men from a guest house in Gwarko, Lalitpur, on the charge of raping a 27-year-old woman on January 2, 2021. A probe is underway.

Trafficking to UAE: A man was arrested for allegedly attempting to traffic a woman to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The trafficker told the woman that she would be sent to UAE for domestic work. The inquiry of police revealed that she was being sent to work on visit visa.

Pandemic hit employment sectors: COVID-crisis has struck domestic as well as foreign employment sectors affecting the economy of the country. The major impact of which is faced by the workers in informal sectors. UNDP survey report indicates three out of five employees were retrenched while the remaining workers faced pay cuts. Moreover, the number of migrant workers travelling abroad dropped down by 27.5% in the fiscal year of 2019-20.

Migrant workers working on visit visas: Department of Foreign Employment seized eight passports with visit visas along with other documents for United Arab Emirates from a recruiting agency. The raid was conducted as there were more than usual number of migrant workers travelling to destination countries on visit visas, particularly UAE. As of now, 14 raids have been conducted.

Online harassment of women:  Harassment and abuse in digital platforms has increased dramatically in the past one year. Uploading inappropriate pictures and videos of individuals without their consent is seen to be most common form of online abuse. Further, legal experts states it is difficult to fill the legal gaps to regulate online platforms owing to swift advancement of technologies.
