The Evolving Nepal-China Relationship: Navigating Challenges & Seizing Opportunities
The Centre for Social Inclusion & Federalism (CESIF) held a seminar on ‘The Evolving Nepal-China Relationship: Navigating Challenges & Seizing Opportunities’ at the Marriott Hotel in Kathmandu on 13th Sep,2023. Timed to coincide with Prime Minister Dahal's upcoming visit to Beijing, the seminar featured three panels: ‘Nepal-China Relations: Current Status,’ ‘Looking to the Future: Chinese Initiatives, BRI, GSI & National Security,’ and ‘Politics of Bilateral Relations.’
Vijay Kant Karna, Executive Chair at CESIF, emphasized the significance of the Prime Minister's visit for resolving bilateral issues and strengthening ties. The first session highlighted the need for improved cross-border connectivity and adapting to China's shifting goals. The second session discussed China's global initiatives and the importance of Nepal maintaining a flexible foreign policy. The final session focused on modernizing Nepal-China relations amidst shifting geopolitical contexts.
Panelists agreed that the Prime Minister's visit presents a key opportunity to enhance bilateral relations, with priorities including implementing past agreements, trade facilitation, and border control improvements. The event brought together experts from various fields to discuss these critical issues.
