Sher Bahadur Deuba, on January 8 and 9, nominated 13 party leaders to the central committee. Most of them had lost contests for office bearer positions.

On January 5, Shekhar Koirala held a meeting of his political camp, inviting Congress party’s senior party leaders. The agenda of the meeting was to chart out the camp’s strategies, and to discuss ways to check and balance Sher Bahadur Deuba, who has a 80 percent majority in the party.

In the meeting of Shekhar Koirala’s political camp of Nepali Congress, Koirala challenged Deuba’s nominations for central committee members, questioning the criteria for the nominations. Leaders also commented that a strategy to check and balance Sher Bahadur Deuba is required as they don’t agree with Deuba’s leadership strategy.

On January 13, three members of the Communist Party of Nepal’s (Maoist Centre) central secretariat and two people working at the canteen were diagnosed with Covid. The party was scheduled to select 14 of its 15 office bearers, however, this has been postponed as chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has suspended meetings until further notice after the covid diagnosis.

Sher Bahadur Deuba and KP Oli held a meeting at Oli’s residence in Balkot in order to discuss house obstructions by UML and uncertainty about the parliamentary approval of the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Party leaders of Janata Samajbadi Party said that senior leader Baburam Bhattarai criticized Chairman Upendra Yadav for recommending Parshuram Khapung and Uma Shankar Shah as National Assembly candidates without consultation from the party.
