On December 17, CPN-UML Secretary General Shanker Pokhrel announced that Bhim Rawal, who lost to KP Oli in elections for party chair in the party’s 10th national congress, has been given a role as a member in the advisory committee of the party.
On December 17, Nepali Congress declared the remaining five of the eight general secretaries. Through its general convention, the party had elected three joint general secretaries and two general secretaries the day before.
Gagan Thapa, the former health minister, and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the party spokesperson, were elected general secretaries of the Nepali Congress. Thapa secured 3,023 votes (64.56 percent), whereas Sharma secured 1,984 votes (42.37 percent).
Dhanraj Gurung, representing the Shekhar Koirala panel of Nepali Congress, and Purna Bahadur Khadka, representing the Sher Bahadur Deuba panel of Nepali Congress were elected as vice presidents of Nepali Congress.
Two ordinances have been approved in the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Tuesday amid protests from the main opposition party CPN-UML. Ordinance 2078 to amend Act against Sexual Violence and Ordinance to amend Act related to Criminal Offenses and Criminal Procedure have been approved by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu.
Chief Justice Cholendra Shamser Rana convened a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission in order to get the results of the district judges’ examination. The commission had conducted examinations for 18 posts of district judges, held from 12 to 17 September. The commission is under pressure to get the results of the examination.
